29 May Summer Vacation Outfit Ideas

A friend of ours suggested that we do a post about what to pack for summer vacations and how to get the most out of your outfits … so I decided to take the challenge! She’s headed to the beautiful islands of Hawaii, so this vacation packing list will be geared more towards the beach! (lucky girl!) She’s also going with her kids so she’d like to be comfortable, but also stylish! Now just as a heads up, I didn’t even post anything about swimming suits! Why? Well because when it comes to swimming suits I feel like there are SO many variables and that alone could take a whole post (or two!) BUT I did want to pick out some of my favorite accessories and outfits that are easy to put together, can be dressed up OR down, can transition from the beach to the night, AND keep you stylish and comfy all at the same time! I hope you find something new you’d like to add to your summer wardrobe!

what to pack1

First, let’s talk accessories! I recently purchased this hat for a family boating trip I just went on! I have been loving the truck driver style hats for awhile now and was so excited when I found this one! Not only will it protect your face from the sun, but it will hide that messy hair! I also noticed that it kept my long hair from getting too tangled on a windy boat ride. Long hair + the wind can make for some snarly hair!
When it comes to glasses, I can’t resist the aviator style sunglasses. I’m no expert, but I  swear they look good on everybody! I’m not the type to splurge on sunglasses because I tend to lose them or my little one stretches them out from trying them on. So I don’t mind buying a couple pairs for the summer especially when these ones only cost $5!
Very rarely will you see me wearing anything other than (fake) 😉 diamond earrings or gold hoops! I thought these ones from JCrew were perfect and super affordable!
Also, I love having a chunky necklace on hand, just incase you need to dress things up at night! You can take a simple outfit like a tshirt and jeans, add a chunky necklace to it, and instantly you’ve dressed it up a notch! Once again, JCrew has the BEST selection of necklaces! You can usually get them for a really great price if you buy one that’s on sale when they’re having an additional 40-50% off sale prices! (Generally you can get one for around $15-20!)

sandals

You’re probably already really familiar with both of these sandals from Target, but seriously! The gold sparkly ones are by far my favorite sandals! They go with everything and I love that they add some sparkle to any outfit!! Besides wearing your basic flip flops on the beach, you could basically pack one of these sandals and they’d match everything else you wore! You could easily dress these sandals up or down!

what to pack2

Now for the clothes! I’m pretty much obsessed with fitted jogger/sweat pants! It is my outfit of choice for sure! Of course you can already guess how comfortable these are, but I also think they look cute enough to wear around town! Then the best part is, when night time rolls around and you’re too tired to change, you don’t have to because you can also wear them to bed! I recently purchased the ones from Gap with the zippers on the legs and I think they’re the best! The lady in the picture is even wearing a button-up shirt with them! One more thing you can dress up or down! Also I’m a total sucker for the heather gray ones too! I know you might be thinking, sweatpants in the summer? Yes, yes I am! These are actually really lightweight and I think even cooler (temperature wise 🙂 ) than anything denim!
That is also true about the patterned jersey pants! These are so lightweight and easy to wear! You can find these pants all over, but H&M has a lot of different colors and patterns to chose from!
I LOVE this printed tunic from Clad & Cloth! I’d suggest wearing this tunic at night or during the day with leggings, then wearing it also as a cover-up! It makes a great cover-up because it will actually cover you up from the sun when your skin need a little bit of a break!
I thought these pineapple pom-pom shorts were SO cute and fun for summer that I couldn’t resisit buying one! These are great to throw over your swimming suit with a shirt on your way to and from the beach! I thought they looked like they could be from Anthropologie, but they’re actually really cheap!
Stretchy skirts are always great to have on hand! Especially this really cute printed one from Forever 21! I love the floral with the stripes! These skirts make great outfits and also transition to swim coverups!
If you have a few basic t-shirts you can easily mix and match them with lots of different bottoms! Then like I mentioned above, you can throw a fun, chunky necklace on top and it will dress that t-shirt right up! Gap has really great basic tees in every color possible!

I hope this can give you a few ideas for this summer! I also know that you probably have some great ideas for summer outfits as well so comment below and tell me what you have on your vacation packing list! Wherever you travel this summer, I hope you have a wonderful, safe trip!

Aloha!
