04 May Photo/Video Ideas for Baptism

**We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or "Mormons."  Some of the things I reference are specific
to our faith - like the Book of Mormon.  However, you could replace those things with things that are important to you in
your own faith. If you'd like more information about our faith, visit Mormon.org**

I’ve had two of my kids get baptized at age 8 now and have loved the photos and video I have of them at this special age.  I don’t think this should be the only time you capture their sweet personality in photos/video but with them getting baptized, it is a fun time to capture them and something special they and you will have in years to come to look back on.

Photos

I like to take them to the temple/church to take some pictures.  It’s a great backdrop and very beautiful and fitting given the decision they have recently made to be baptized.  I also love to have them be somewhere out in nature since that just makes you think of all of God’s creations and how blessed we are because he has created such a beautiful place for us to live.  I love to include the Book of Mormon in a few shots as well as a CTR ring, if they have one already.  My kids get one on the day of their baptism to be a reminder of that special day, so I don’t have photos with that, however I’ve seen some done and it is really cute.  I also like to capture them in the moment – not as many posed shots (just a couple of those).  It’s best to see their cute personality coming out.  Skipping, jumping, twirling, laughing – these are all things I like to try and capture them doing.  Just being a child and acting their age.

Here are some samples of photos I took of my daughter since she was recently baptized:

Video

While I think the photos are really important, I love doing a video of them.  I come up with some questions to ask them – some relating to church and baptism and others relating to who they are.  It’s an opportunity to capture who they are and what they love at this age in their life.

Here are some sample questions I’m sure to ask each time:
Why do you want to be baptized?
What’s your favorite scripture story?
What is your favorite primary song? Why?
What’s your favorite color?
What’s your favorite sport?
What do you like to do in your spare time?

I choose the background music based on what their favorite primary song or hymn is or just a song that fits the video best.  In the case of my daughter’s video, she had recorded a couple of primary songs when she was 5 years old and I had to use those for this because they fit so perfectly since they were songs about baptism and the temple.

Here’s the video for her baptism:

You’ll also see in the video that I included a section of her growing up over the years… being sure to include her blessing day as an infant and photos on each birthday as she got older.  Then I added all the photos I took of her in her baptism dress at the end.

She loves to watch the video, as do her siblings, and it will be something we treasure and will love being able to watch in the future.  I hope this helps when you’re trying to plan your child’s special day! This could really be used for anything, even milestone birthdays, parent’s anniversaries (altered a bit), etc.

XOXO
